Drawing from MJCA’s extensive experience teaching international students, neither your background nor age matters in becoming a sushi expert. What truly counts is your passion and commitment.
The student featured in this article is a perfect example of this principle. When she enrolled in MJCA’s Sushi Masterclass -Foundation- online course, she had minimal experience with Japanese cuisine. Having started the course in her 50s, she also faced language barriers in English. However, none of these obstacles held her back. Despite her busy life as a professional cooking instructor in Armenia, her unwavering passion drove her to fully dedicate herself to learning sushi at a professional level. MJCA recognizes her as one of the most committed students in its history.
Meet Gayane from Armenia
What is your background?
With a passion for cooking, I have been exploring a variety of kinds of food for the last 10 years. I sometimes join master classes in various cuisines to expand my repertoire. My interest in cooking even led me to study French cuisine in France in the past.
My culinary journey involves not only learning new cuisines but also providing my knowledge and skills to others as a professional cooking instructor.
Why MJCA?
What challenges did you encounter before taking the course?
When I visited Japan, I was impressed by the art of Japanese cuisine. I loved the taste of sushi and the art on a sushi plate created by Japanese chefs. I decided to learn sushi-making skills on a professional level from Japanese chefs.
However, despite the high demand for learning Japanese cuisine at a high level, not many schools offer such courses around the world. And online courses are even more limited if you want to learn at a professional level.
What made you decide to take our course?
I heard about MJCA from one of my friends who lives in the United States. The academy seemed to have a good reputation and a solid online program. I also liked the fact that I would receive a certificate upon completion. Among several options, I decided to take the MJCA’s course, which turned out to be a great decision.

What was your takeaway from the course?
My first thought after completing the course was that I could not have found someone like my mentor anywhere else. My main takeaway was knowledge and skills regarding sushi making. Second, but no less important, was to have such a professional and caring team to support my journey. I am truly glad I chose MJCA.
What are your impressions of live sessions with your mentor?
I really appreciate how attentive he was. He gave me a clear direction on even the smallest details. How he explained everything was truly professional, helping me improve my skills in each and every session.
