Japanese food is one of the upcoming cuisines around the globe for many gourmets and cooking enthusiasts today. However, it could be a different story when it comes to cooking it on their own.
The cuisine has so much more than its sophisticated appearance, and you find it tough to deepen your knowledge and polish up your skills through youtube or cookbooks.
Today, we have another testimonial to show how an amateur hobby cook, Daniel, acquired his sushi-making techniques with our Sushi Masterclass – Foundation- course. During our conversation, he kindly told us his honest opinions about his experience with MJCA.
Meet Daniel from Germany
When he joined our academy, Daniel lived and worked as an engineer in Germany. But he told us that he always had this passion for cooking, and culinary methods and food culture in any cuisine never cease to inspire him.
He says it has been a few years since he became fascinated by Japanese cuisine. He even tried to make sushi at home before taking MJCA’s course.
Being curious about learning how to make Japanese food in general, there were no Japanese restaurants in his neighborhood where he could learn the skills. So, he had no choice but to find other ways to master them. He took local sushi cooking classes in his city (not a large city) and tackled online self-study content.
The Struggles
What were the challenges Daniel encountered while learning Japanese cuisine on his own?
Because he had spent some time learning the cuisine the way mentioned above, Daniel was somewhat confident about his knowledge and skills before joining MJCA’s masterclass.
However, the more he learned, the more he realized there was so much more to learn. That led him to seek an opportunity to receive lectures firsthand from master chefs in Japanese cuisine.
Sadly enough, he had no luck learning from “knowledgeable” instructors in his neighborhood. Surprisingly and unfortunately, many non-Japanese chefs and other food professionals in the Japanese cooking field had little access to the opportunity to master the cuisine outside of Japan.
That is when Daniel happened to find MJCA on Instagram. Even though it is an online school, the academy offers live feedback sessions with a master chef, which was what he was looking for. This simple yet unheard-of method – an online live lesson directly taught by a master chef – sounded perfect to him. So, he decided to take a step and signed up for the course after.
Learning with MJCA
How was Daniel’s whole experience working with MJCA?
He convinced himself that the course was well-structured for people like him who wanted to improve their cooking skills as passionate home cooks. The team, tailoring the structure of the live feedback sessions, adjusts the level based on students’ needs and status.
The Sushi Masterclass -Foundation- course starts with how to cook rice. Daniel knew that rice was the essential ingredient in the sushi-making process and that the process was fundamental yet vital, and that made him think that the course was thorough and beneficial.
All in all, he could take his skills to another level because of the direct feedback from his instructor and MJCA’s spot-on self-study content. Daniel told us he was pleased with the entire experience because it helped him learn the knowledge and techniques quickly and immensely.
What did Daniel think of MJCA’s feedback sessions?
His review of the online sessions was very positive, stating that the feedback from the master chef was nothing but fruitful.
There were moments full of pure surprises for him because some techniques and knowledge he thought were correct turned out to be wrong. Despite the effort and time he had spent before the course, he realized how little he had known about making sushi after completing the class.
Daniel was content that he got to learn jaw-dropping facts from the academy. Learning from master chefs was unquestionably the right move for him because self-taught knowledge could be utterly wrong. Without these sessions, he would have kept making the same mistakes, and he would not have even known that he was making the mistakes.
Try It Yourself
Yes, our academy has earned the trust of chefs/people who aspire to become professional sushi chefs. However, this Daniel’s story is a great example to prove the course also has much to offer for hobby cooks.
